Our Friends - Twin Cities Indigenous Strategist, Brook LaFloe, was recently celebrated along with her mother, Janice, in an Elevate Teaching article about their work blending tradition with innovation to create educational spaces that honor Native heritage and empower the next generation. Janice is the Executive Director of the Montessori American Indian Childcare Center, where Brook is the Associate Director.

In the article, Janice and Brook share about how their backgrounds, education experiences, and passion for community and culture shape their work. Brook says, “With my background in child development and anthropology (which, unfortunately, often viewed Native people as historical rather than living), I’ve worked to ensure our curriculum reflects who we are—living, thriving, and deeply rooted in our cultures.”
