May 06, 2024 Friends - Twin Cities visit to Timberwolves game “Defense! Defense!” was a popular new chant for two youth from Friends of the Children – Twin Cities as they cheered on the Minnesota Timberwolves to victory over the Washington Wizards last month during the regular season. We are thrilled to be working with our first cohort of youth and sharing opportunities like their first NBA game with them! The girls and Friends of the Children staff were invited to attend an April game by Anthony Gill, a star of the visiting Wizards. Anthony may have been playing for the Timberwolves’ opponent, but he is a big supporter of the Friends of the Children network, including the Twin Cities chapter. After the game, Anthony invited the girls and their mentors for a special, on court meet and greet. "I was thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with Friends of the Children – Twin Cities, meeting the youth was the highlight of the game," said Anthony. "I believe that Friends of the Children can make real change in the world." He definitely inspired our youth! The girls had so much fun cheering and dancing to the music in the arena. It was also the first NBA experience for Sarah, our Program Manager at Friends of the Children – Twin Cities. We want to extend a BIG thank you to Anthony for sharing this opportunity with us and we look forward to cheering him on next season – as long as he isn’t playing our Timberwolves 😊
