Celebrating Summer with Youth and Families

What is your favorite treat to enjoy during the summertime?!

That is the question we asked to help our very first cohort of youth and their families get to know each other last month. After all, who doesn’t love arguing that their favorite flavor of ice cream or popsicle is absolutely the best!

The youngest kids were shy at first, but opened up through some fun activities, pizza, and treats. The adults had the opportunity to learn more about our Friends of the Children core assets and the way we cultivate them as the children played, colored, and made hand-made maracas out of plastic eggs, spoons, and rice.

The ‘shake shake shake’ sound could be heard as the youth showed off their creations on their way out of the North Commons Recreation Center! We are thankful to all who supported and attended our very first family engagement event, and are excited to continue bringing youth and families together to make connections and build community.
