Dave Colling is a seasoned leader in the nonprofit sector with over two decades of experience in program development, community engagement, and strategic management. Growing up in an economically challenged, underserved neighborhood in southwest Detroit, Dave was raised in a single-parent household by his mother and grandmother. Their strong beliefs in giving back to the community provided an early foundation that continues to drive his dedication to service and equity today.
Dave’s career path was forever altered in 1990 when a volunteer opportunity at a local campaign office sparked a lifelong passion for making a difference through the political and community process. After spending much of his adult life working in government and managing high-level political campaigns—including Congressman Keith Ellison’s successful 2006 run—Dave pivoted his focus to the nonprofit world to create more direct, positive change.
Currently, Dave serves as the Community Partnership and Contract Manager at Metro Meals on Wheels, where he manages multimillion-dollar government contracts and develops vital partnerships to address food insecurity. His leadership has led to transformative growth, including expanding the reach of senior meal programs and helping create the nation’s first home-delivered meal program exclusively for veterans. He has also held key leadership roles as Executive Director for organizations such as Frogtown Farm and the Harrison Neighborhood Association.
Dave holds a Master’s Degree in Nonprofit Management (MNM) from Hamline University. Outside of his professional roles, he has been deeply involved in his community as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters and enjoys playing baseball for the St. Anthony Codgers. Dave lives in the Twin Cities area with his wife, Sarah Steil, and their son, George.
